Goalie School
Goalie School Information
The Metro Elite hockey program has recently acquired the Top Shelf goalie school. Top Shelf is celebrating its eleventh anniversary this summer. In the past decade we are proud to say that over hundred students have built a strong foundation and developed unique skill sets necessary for being a successful goaltender.
Philosophy:
The Metro Elite hockey program feels goalies’ developmental needs are generally neglected throughout the season. Often goaltenders are used mainly
as targets during practice, while the rest of the players are working on areas that help them. In order for a goalie to be successful he/she has to be in the right position. To do this, he/she has to be one of the best skaters on the team. "Movement" is the key for every goalies’ success. Without fluid movement, a goalie won't be in the most ideal position to make the saves necessary to keep
the puck out of the net. At Top Shelf, in addition to learning movement and
the different types of saves, a goalie will learn how to use these skills both physically and mentally. We call this "reading the play." Through intensive drills players will learn to incorporate these essential skills into their save selection on the ice. Most importantly, we teach each goalie to coach himself/herself. Self motivation encourages these athletes to do the little things that are so neglected throughout the season due to inconsistent goal coaching.
